FILME A-Z
Bei "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" (2003) - dt.

Teils (Arbeitstitel: "Uncharted Waters", "World's End", "Treasures of the Lost Abyss") wurden gleich mitgedreht...

Mai 2007...

Teil mit dem Titel "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" soll am 19.

[...] "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise --this time in Disney Digital 3D(TM). In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), and he's not sure if it's love--or if she's a ruthless con artist who's using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn't know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.
Rush reprises his role as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa, and Kevin R. McNally returns as Captain Jack's longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs. Claflin stars as a stalwart missionary, while Berges-Frisbey is transformed into a mysterious mermaid. [...]

IT'S been a while since we've heard from supermodel turned actor Gemma Ward, but rest assured, her career is definitely on the up.
We can reveal exclusively the stunning blonde has signed on for a role in the latest Pirates Of The Caribbean film.
Starring Johnny Depp, Megan Fox, Penelope Cruz and Geoffrey Rush, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides begins filming in Hawaii this week.
Ward won't shoot her scenes until August, playing a mermaid in the blockbuster action adventure.
It's a small speaking part for Ward, but provides a clear indication of where she is heading with her career. [...]

A lot of the 2011 summer tentpole releases have already been announced as being either filmed in 3D or converted afterwards, but so far, May 2011 has been somewhat devoid of 3D release announcements... until now!
Walt Disney Pictures has announced that the fourth installment of Jerry Bruckheimer's popular action franchise Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, directed by Rob Marshall, will be filmed in Disney Digital 3D. Bruckheimer's only previous 3D movie before that was last year's G-Force.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is still slated for release on May 20, 2011.

Remember this report by the Los Angeles Times about budget cuts for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides? Co-writer Terry Rossio has reponded on his message boards saying that it's a non-story:
This is a great example of entertainment reporting, and has been the source of much amusement around the production offices.
Here's what really happened. An LA Times reporter decided (ahead of any facts) to write a story about cutbacks on summer movies, Pirates in particular. He then managed to get a general interview or two. In the course of the interview, like any responsible studio or producer, people maintained they were trying to get the best movie possible at a reasonable price. Imagine that.
The reporter then had just enough credibility to write a story with a slant.
No need for the facts to get in the way. My guess is the budget on P4 will be higher than P1, in the realm of P2, and lower than P3. (And the difference there has more to do with the difficulty of shooting two movies, deadlines, hurricanes, tank issues, multiple star salaries, and myriad other details.) Hard to even tell, as the budget on P4 contains various tax deferments, and the decision has still not been made to shoot in 3D. Actually, the budget on P4 isn't even set yet, so really, there is nothing to report.
The truth is, the studio and everyone involved fought just as hard to lower the budgets of P1, P2, and P3 as they are on P4. Nothing has changed. Are there budget meetings on P4 to look for ways to get the most for the money? Of course. Same as on every film. It's a complete non-story. But now the 'spin' is out there, sure to be repeated. [...]

SPOILER !!!
[...] With the fourth installment of the swashbuckling tale poised to start shooting June 14, Bruckheimer and the filmmakers are scrambling to meet the more constrained budget that Disney is imposing. Although it's still large - north of $200 million - it is at least a third less than the last "Pirates" movie and includes far fewer shooting days and visual effects shots. [...]
To save more money, the number and selection of filming locations changed. Whereas the prior installments were shot in the Caribbean and Los Angeles, the upcoming production will be filmed primarily in Hawaii and London, where tax credits are more favorable. The number of shooting days scheduled is 90 to 95, down from 142 on the last movie. Similarly, there are expected to be 1,300 to 1,400 visual effects shots, compared with 2,000. [...]
Gone is one shooting location four hours north of London that would have required an overnight stay for the cast and crew. Instead, filming in London will save $3 million to $4 million.
An "ice fair," in which jugglers and carnival acts would perform on a frozen River Thames, was excised too.
The filmmakers are also looking to shorten an elaborate carriage chase. As written, the scene in which the British pursue Jack Sparrow through the streets of London would require 12 shooting days, but it is being cut to four to six days. [...]

[15.04.2010] CS! meldet...
Walt Disney Pictures has announced that French actress Astrid Bergès-Frisbey has been personally picked by producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Rob Marshall to star in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides as Syrena, a beautiful and alluring young mermaid encountered by Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow.
A star of stage and screen in her native Paris, the 23-year-old actress born in Barcelona to French-American and Catalan parents has appeared in films such as Bruc and La Première Étoile as well as work on television and in a French production of Peter Shaffer's "Equus." To date, none of those films have made their way to the U.S. shores so that "On Stranger Tide" will more than likely be the actresses introduction not only to moviegoers in the United States, but much of the rest of the world as well.
Scheduled to start filming in Hawaii, Great Britain and Los Angeles in June for a May 20, 2011 release, the fourth installment is looking to build on the $2.7 billion made globally by the original trilogy.

[20.03.2010] MTV.com meldet...
We've known since February that Penélope Cruz was looking to come aboard "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the fourth installment of Johnny Depp's swashbuckling adventure stories. Yet until now, her exact role has remained unclear.
MTV News has exclusively learned exactly how Cruz fits into the story: She's the daughter of Depp's nemesis.
"She plays the daughter of Blackbeard," executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer told MTV News at ShoWest in Las Vegas. "She's the daughter of the bad guy.
"She brings a lot of humor to it. And the fact that she's so feisty," he continued, adding that there will be "a little romance between [Depp's] Captain Jack and the character that Penelope plays."
Ian McShane is to set to play Blackbeard, the main adversary to Captain Jack Sparrow. As Bruckheimer put it, Blackbeard is "the nastiest pirate ever."
Geoffrey Rush, who has played Barbossa in the three previous "Pirates" films, told MTV News in September that he expected to reprise his role in "On Stranger Tides," and Bruckheimer confirmed that will indeed be the case.
Filming is slated to begin in June. New actors are in the process of being cast for certain roles, with testing currently in the works. As for the plot, we know the story will pick up where it ended in 2007's "At World's End": with Sparrow's search for the Fountain of Youth. Yet Bruckheimer promised a fresh approach to this familiar material.
"We're going to take a whole new direction," he said. [...]

Ian McShane is in negotiations to play the villain in " Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the fourth installment of the Disney movie series being directed by Rob Marshall.
McShane will play legendary pirate Blackbeard -- whose real name was Edward Teach -- who piloted the ship Queen Anne's Revenge.
McShane will join Johnny Depp, reprising his role of Captain Jack Sparrow, and Penelope Cruz, Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways, in a tale that revolves around the Fountain of Youth. [...]

Q: [...] Johnny, we heard that there's not going to be any Keira Knightley or Orlando Bloom in the next "Pirates." Is it going to be more Jack Sparrow front and center?
Depp:
Yeah, there's no Keira or Orlando in there. I don't know. I don't think we'd ever throw too much Jack Sparrow in there. It'll be everybody.
Q: You were sort of wavering a little after Dick Cook left. Have you regained your confidence about it or what reassured you?
Depp:
One thing that I found very reassuring was a very good conversation with Dick Cook who is someone I admire greatly. That helped a lot. Also, knowing that we're coming at it from a different angle at this point. [Director] Rob Marshall and a totally new take and a new story. [...]

[11.02.2010] Heat Vision meldet...
Penelope Cruz is in negotiations to join Johnny Depp and sail the seven seas in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the fourth installment of the movie series being directed by Rob Marshall.
Depp is reprising his popular role of Captain Jack Sparrow, and while plot details are buried deeper than Blackbeard's treasure, it is known the tale revolves around the Fountain of Youth.
Cruz's character details are also being kept secret, though she is to be Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways.
Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot wrote the script. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing.
For Cruz, the role reunites her with Marshall, who directed her in "Nine." Her performance garnered her an Oscar nomination in the best supporting actress category just last week. She won the Oscar for best actress in a supporting role for 2008's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona."
"Pirates" will set sail before cameras in Hawaii this summer. Disney plans for a May 20, 2011, release.

[...] Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Powers confirms that Disney optioned the book almost three years ago. But what will they use from the book? Here's a clip:
"I've watched all the movies several times, of course, and I think the clear thing they would use is the trip to the Fountain of Youth," Powers said. "My main character doesn't overlap with Jack Sparrow at all [in personality or circumstance]; they're totally different characters. I suppose they might overlap the Geoffrey Rush character Barbossa and Blackbeard. The only thing I feel certain they will hold on to is the Fountain of Youth since they telegraphed that at the end of the last movie."
You can read more of his comments here. Empire magazine also has more quotes from co-writer Terry Rossio who says the script isn't necessarily based on the book but that they do use elements of the novel:
"We wanted to do a story about Blackbeard and the Fountain of Youth, and Tim Powers wrote a book about Blackbeard and the Fountain of Youth... it just turns out that to do that story you would need that book. It's a brilliant and Tim Powers is an amazing writer - and it's a great title. It allows us to draw material from that universe and his expertise." [...]

[...] Following the recent departure of Disney studio chief Dick Cook, Johnny Depp admitted to being less enthusiastic about returning to the role of Captain Jack Sparrow for "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" ("Pirates" part 4, for those who lost count). And the fans in turn admitted that they'd give up on the franchise without him in it.
That apparently isn't stopping Disney though. According to a tip received by Cinema Blend, the studio is preparing to replace Depp if/when he decides to abandon ship. This may not happen with "On Stranger Tides," as Disney is likely prepared to offer him as much money as it takes to keep him aboard. The actor, who is said to be aware the last two movies "sucked," will definitely not be sticking around for the fifth and sixth installments if the tipster is to be believed. [...]

[...] Speculation has already begun that the subtitle "On Stranger Tides" refers to author Tim Powers' novel with the same name. The following is the official description of the book:
Puppeteer John Chandagnac, who was sailing to Jamaica to get revenge on the uncle who had stolen his father's inheritance, has no choice but to join the buccaneers who have taken him prisoner--and soon, known now as the pirate Jack Shandy, he finds himself learning to survive in a treacherous new world of cutlass-fights, sea-battles, and voodoo magic on sun-blinded tropical islands. The legendary Blackbeard is assembling a ruthless navy of pirates living and undead to voyage to the fabled Fountain of Youth, and Jack Shandy must use magic, swordsmanship, and even his puppeteer skills to free himself and the girl he has fallen in love with from Blackbeard's deadly supernatural domination.
At the end of the third "Pirates" movie, it is shown that both Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) are next eyeing the Fountain of Youth. Barbossa has "stolen" the Black Pearl back from Sparrow, but Sparrow has cut out the most important part of Barbossa's map to the Fountain of Youth.
If they will be adapting the book, will Sparrow and Barbossa have to team up again against Blackbeard? We'll have to wait and see how it will turn out.

Disney is on the verge of putting Rob Marshall in as director of a fourth installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean," a move that puts the film on track for a 2010 production start, with Johnny Depp back as Captain Jack Sparrow.
There hasn’t been a director at the helm of the pirate ship since April, when Gore Verbinski stepped out to focus on a movie version of the vidgame "Bioshock" for Universal [..]. Though that film’s lost some momentum, Verbinski has moved on to other directing and producing projects.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney have been meeting with a number of directors in recent weeks, because the studio wants to pull the "Pirates" film together and have Depp star in it before he does "The Lone Ranger" for the producer and the studio. While Marshall’s involvement wasn’t immediately confirmed, sources said things look good enough that the studio has begun casting new characters that will appear in the picture.
It is big business for Disney, as the "Pirates" trilogy grossed $2.6 billion worldwide with Verbinski at the helm. Sources say unless things break down at the last moment, Marshall will be steering the pirate vehicle’s next installment.
Marshall, who made his feature directing debut with the Oscar-winning musical "Chicago," most recently completed another musical, "Nine," which stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson and Sophia Loren. The film will be released November 25 by The Weinstein Co.

[23.06.2009] Latino Review sprach mit Johnny Depp, u.a. über "PotC 4"...
[...] Call me a glutton. Honestly, if we can get the screenplay right to Pirates 4, because obviously virtually no cinema is perfect. Pirates I had its own thing. 2 & 3 I suppose had their own thing and you know it got a little confusing here and there in the story. Not that I've seen the movies, but I hear tales [smiles]. I think for me, because I love the character so much, and I enjoy playing the character so much and people seem to like him, that if there's an opportunity to try again, it's like going up to bat. You wanna get back out there and try and try and I enjoy playing the character of Jack very much. At this point what I'm trying to do is turn it into a Beckett play. [laughs]

[12.06.2009] CS! sprach mit dem Produzenten Jerry Bruckheimer...
[...] Bruckheimer told us that for Disney, the priority is most definitely "Pirates." "It's a great franchise for them and for us, too," he said. "A beloved character and Johnny's really excited about coming back to Captain Jack. He certainly is interested in Tonto, but Disney's priority is to get 'Pirates' made first. You never know what's going to happen, but they would like it."
Bruckheimer shared that the original writers, Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot, were "writing 'Pirates' as we speak," and he said it was "funny" and a "whole new way of going" although he wouldn't share more than that.
Since Gore Verbinski recently announced that he may not direct a movie based on the video game BioShock, we asked Bruckheimer if there was a chance he might return for a fourth movie. "You never know," he admitted. "He created the franchise so we'd love to have him back, but it's kind of up to him." [...]

British actor/comedian Russell Brand has lent some weight to the rumor he’ll be joining Johnny Depp in the next "Pirates of the Caribbean" installment... maybe.
"There’s been some talk of doing a ‘Pirates’ movie," Russell told Billy Bush for AccessHollywood.com and "The Billy Bush Show." "But, I’ve got eight other things to do [including] ‘Get Him To The Greek’ with Judd Apatow" So I don’t know if there’ll be time to be a pirate, I’ve got enough of that in me private life." [...]

[...] Despite denials from those involved in the film, Russell Brand tells Australia's Herald-Sun Newspaper that he has been offered a role in the fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie. [...]

[...] As far as approaching the sequels for "National Treasure" and "Pirates of the Caribbean," Bruckheimer says that both are having scripts written. "We've sat with the writers and we're working up the story and plotlines right now. They're in the process of finishing 'The Lone Ranger' so they're working on both of those simultaneously, same set of writers, Elliot and Rossio, who did all three 'Pirates' and worked on 'National Treasure (2)'"
When asked whether they might consider gearing another "Pirates" movie to IMAX, based on the success Warner Bros. had with The Dark Knight, Bruckheimer responded, "Absolutely. I'd love to do it, so let's just see if we can work it through the production schedule with everything else."
"I think they're pushing towards 2012," Bruckheimer told us about the possible release date for this fourth "Pirates" movie. "Hopefully we can make it we'll see." [...]

[15.10.2008] CS! meldet...
Terry Rossio, co-screenwriter of the first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, has debunked the various rumors that are going around about Pirates of the Caribbean 4. They ranged from Johnny Depp getting $56 million for the fourth movie to Tim Burton directing to Sacha Baron Cohen and Russell Brand co-starring. Rossio writes:
For the record, none of the recent Pirates 4 rumors have any truth, including the so-called record 50 million dollar payday for Depp.
Some pretty funny stuff, though. Sacha Cohen? Tim Burton? Studios are way too protective of their franchises for that sort of thing.
The only thing that has been officially announced so far is that Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth film.

[10.10.2008] Wie Cinema Blend meldet, scheint Disney bereits einen Regisseur für "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" im Auge zu haben...
Big, big news on the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie, courtesy of one of our most reliable tipsters. [...] Geoffrey Rush and director Gore Verbinski are apparently both planning to return, but... and this is a big maybe... Tim Burton might direct instead. Tim Burton! If there is a single director who could make people excited for a fourth Pirates movie, it has to be Burton. He's done so many amazing movies with Depp already, and might have the ability to make the new franchise as fresh and exciting as it was when the first movie came out. After all, Tim Burton is already making a movie for Disney, and if Alice in Wonderland is going well, you can see how they'd want to hang on to him
Again, this information is all up in the air, and could change at any moment. [...]

[...] In regards to PIRATES, two dramatically conflicting assessments about how a fourth film might be approached have been making the rounds.
Some indications suggest the film's story would be far more contained than its predecessors, allowing for a budget-friendly downsizing.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, there's been unsubstantiated talk that a fourth film would go the other way completely...think in terms of ultra fantastical (dinosaurs, Jules Verne-esque floating fortresses, etc.) [...]

[...] the celebrated Oscar-winning actor who's no stranger to sequels and franchises, which spurred us to ask Rush for his thoughts on the possibilities of him and Johnny Depp returning for a fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie. Even though some were disappointed with Pirates of Caribbean: At World's End, it has grossed $960 million worldwide, more than any other movie this year, so making a fourth movie must be something on a lot of minds.
"I think people will let it sit for a while," he told us. "There's a strange attitude about franchise movies. People look at them as that rather than storytelling. Back in the old days, how many Thin Man movies did William Powell end up doing? Probably five or six. How many road movies did Bob and Bing end up doing over 25-year period? There could be a point... because Jack Sparrow is probably now to a certain generation more well known as a representative of the Disney imagination than Mickey Mouse himself and Johnny's performance in that role is such an extraordinary thing... that it may pop up."
