Die TV-Serie "Buffy - Im Bann der Dämonen" (1997), mit Sarah Michelle Gellar (u.a. "Scream 2", "The Grudge", "Scooby Doo") als Buffy, hat weltweit Kultstatus erreicht...
Die Vampirjägerin Buffy Summers zieht nach Sunnydale, einer kleinen Gemeinde in Kalifornien, die sich ausgerechnet über dem so genannten "Hellmouth", dem Tor zu Hölle, befindet. Dies erklärt denn auch die Anwesenheit vieler Vampire, Dämonen und anderer übernatürlicher Kreaturen...
In ihrem Kampf gegen all diese Geschöpfe der Nacht erhält die gerade einmal 17-jährige, von höheren Mächten zum Kampf auserwählte Jägerin, Hilfe von dem mysteriösen "Angel" (gespielt von David Boreanaz), in den sie sich verliebt - was zu argen Komplikationen führt, als sie erfährt, dass er ebenfalls ein Vampir ist, jedoch dazu verflucht, für die bösen Taten, die er einst begangen hat, zu sühnen, da er etwas besitzt, was anderen Vampiren fehlt: eine Seele...
Anfang der 90er Jahre war die Zeit wohl noch nicht reif für Buffy... Dem Kinofilm "Buffy, der Vampirkiller" (1992), mit Kristy Swanson in der Titelrolle, blieb der durchschlagende Erfolg jedenfalls versagt...
Es wurde lautstark über einen "Buffy"-Kinofilm mit Sarah Michelle Gellar nachgedacht, auch mehrere Ableger-Filme zu diversen "Buffy"-Charakteren (z.B. Spike, Giles, Illyria) in Arbeit, die auf DVD veröffentlicht werden sollten, waren im Gespräch... Nun gibt es eine weitere Option: Ein Neustart (neudeutsch: "Reboot") in Form eines Kino-Franchises mit neuen Charakteren... Abwarten...

A new incarnation of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" could be coming to the big screen.
"Buffy" creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, but not a sequel or prequel.
While Whedon is the person most associated with "Buffy," Kuzui and her Kuzui Enterprises have held onto the rights since the beginning, when she discovered the "Buffy" script from then-unknown Whedon. She developed the script while her husband put together the financing to make the 1992 movie, which was released by Fox.
Kuzui later teamed with Gail Berman, then president of Sandollar Television, bringing back Whedon to make the TV series, which was produced by Fox TV and launched on the WB in 1997. Kuzui and Sandollar received executive producer credits on "Buffy" and its spinoff, "Angel."
The new "Buffy" film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike. Vertigo and Kuzui are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon, putting the parties in a similar situation faced by Paramount, J.J. Abrams and his crew when relaunching "Star Trek."
One of the underlying ideas of "Buffy" allows Vertigo and Kuzui to do just that: that each generation has its own vampire slayer to protect it. The goal would be to make a darker, event-sized movie that would, of course, have franchise potential.
The parties are meeting with writers and hearing takes, and later will look for a home for the project. The producers do not rule out Whedon's involvement but have not yet reached out to him.Speaking from Tokyo, Fran Kuzui said the company is constantly approached not only about sequels but theater, video games and foreign remakes for "Buffy." When Vertigo's Lee contacted them, they were intrigued.
"It was Roy's interest in taking Buffy into a new place that grabbed us," she said, noting that original exec producer Sandy Gallin also was consulted. "It was based on our respect for what he does, and his particular sensitivity to Asian filmmakers, that we wanted to work with him."
Kuzui, who is prepping do direct a movie in Japan in the fall, added: "Everything has its moment. Every movie takes on a life at some point, and this seems like the moment to do this."

Former "Buffy" star Alyson Hannigan says not to take much stock into rumours that there will one day be a series of telemovies based on the Slayer's pals.
Though rumours suggested Hannigan might even reprise her role as Willow for one of the telemovies (or 'direct to DVD' films, as most recently rumoured), Hannigan doesn't sound optimistic.
"I think I would just be too scared to sort of go back and possibly tarnish it in any way", she tells Sci Fi Wire. Joss [Whedon] is too busy [to do a Willow movie]. He's not going to write it. He's not going to direct it, you know? I'm sure he would get great people, but there's nothing like the Joss touch. I think by all means they should absolutely do the Spike movie. I think that's the logical next step, but ... I don't think Willow is the next step."
The latest is that the WB are keen for some kind of "Buffy" spin-off movie, particularly the often-mentioned "Spike" film, but Joss Whedon's too booked-up to do it at the moment.

CS: [...] What about "Angel" and "Buffy"? Now that those shows are over, do you think you may try to bring those characters back for a movie or two down the road?
Whedon: Yeah, I think there are a lot of characters that I'd like to tell stories about, and I'm just getting that idea, and obviously, moving onto other things. At this point, it's "Wonder Woman."
CS: My editor mentioned there may even be some "Buffy" spin-off DVDs. Is that something that might happen?
Whedon: Yeah, that's possible. We might try to put that together, which would be some of the other characters like Spike getting a chance to shine on their own.
CS: And those would be full-length movies?
Whedon: Yeah, that's the idea. The idea is very fluid right now. The idea is to have an idea.

Remember that planned "Buffy" spin-off that was set to revolve around Anthony Stewart Head's character of Watcher Rupert Giles? It was all-set for a BBC unleashing at one stage?
How things change. But possibly, in a good way.
Head's Giles character - for the dilettante, he was the British chap who guided Buffy the Vampire Slayer on her many adventures - will star in a "Ripper" series for DVD, says the actor.
"It's gone from, being a series to a two-hour movie that might be part of a series of DVDs that we were talking about doing for the different characters from the shows. It's got a lovely story, and I hope he does something wonderful with him", Head told Buffy Magazine, reports TV Squad and Whedonesque.
There's also DVD spin-off's in the works with the characters of Spike (James Marsters) and Illyria (Amy Acker).
The Giles film, set in England, has been on and off for a number of years now.

So we've all heard the rumors of Joss Whedon directing a Spike movie. However, it seems as though this might just be the tip of a new Buffy iceberg. How Joss finds the time to even think about yet another project is beyond me, but apparently the man is unstoppable. Marti Noxon, executive producer of several seasons of Buffy, says that continued fan interest has lead Whedon to consider a series of direct-to-DVD movies based on the Buffy universe. That's right, friends, not just one, or even two, but a series of new movies. Apparently, past scriptwriters from the show have been contacted regarding screenplays for possible movies focusing around secondary characters (because let's be honest, Sarah Michelle Gellar is not coming back for any direct to DVD movies). Noxon notes the already rumored possibilities of movies revolving around Spike or Angel, but does not mention which other Buffy related characters may also feature into the possible new film series. You said you don't like playing the same character twice. [...] What about the possibility of a "Buffy" movie?
I'm sure that there was tons of talk. I'd heard something here and there. The thing that I never want to play a character again... I don't mean any disrespect for the creators and producers of my previous projects because I never pick a project carelessly. I always have some heart attached to it. "Buffy" was my all-time favorite show before I was on it. So I loved Dawn. She was an awesome character and that was where I was at that point in my life. I was, you know, 14-17, which is hugely different. I'm almost 20 now. I'll be 20 in October, so reprising a character is something... Never say never. As opposed to a sequel for this - the story would have to be amazing because I really feel so proud of what we have on the screen right now. It's not a Disney kitschy movie. It's a heartfelt, loving story. And to have anything less than that as a sequel would be doing a disservice to the original story. So you never know.
What if "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon came up with an idea for a "Buffy" movie in which Dawn was in a completely different place and much older? Would you be interested then?
You never know. Again, like I said, you'd have to see the material and also I have so many projects that I want to do right now after "Ice Princess" and all that, that you have to make sure it fits into that vein because I believe every actor's path is sort of set. You don't want to veer too much away from moving on and growing as an actor. [...]

Die NZ meldet...
Nach dem mehr oder weniger unerwarteten Ende der Serien «Buffy - Im Bann der Dämonen» und dem Spin-Off «Angel» hat der Sender ProSieben Wiederholungen angekündigt. Ab dem 10. November werden Buffys Rückkehr aus dem Reich der Toten (Staffel sechs) und die gesamte, damals unterbrochene Staffel drei von «Angel» zu sehen sein - jeweils im Doppelpack, mittwochs ab 23 Uhr 15.
Wem die alten Werke von Sarah Michelle Gellar und David Boreanz nicht reichen, der kann sich über deren neuen Projekte freuen. Gellar hatte nach dem Ende von «Buffy» zwar angekündigt, sich von nun an ernsthaft um ihre Kino-Karriere kümmern zu wollen, doch hat die Schauspielerin mit dem derzeit in den USA sehr erfolgreichen «The Grudge» Treue zum Horror-Genre bewiesen. Jüngste Gerüchte, dass sie möglicherweise doch für eine «Buffy»-Kinoversion zur Verfügung steht, wurden bisher nicht bestätigt. [...]

SF Wire sprach mit Sarah Michelle Gellar...
Sarah Michelle Gellar told SCI FI Wire that she turned down a chance to voice her most famous role in a proposed animated version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer because she couldn't devote the necessary time to the show. "Literally the joke is I'm a commitment-phobe actor right now," she said in an interview while promoting her latest film, The Grudge. "I am a commitment-phobe because I was nothing but contractually bound for years."
Gellar added, "I was contractually bound to Buffy, to the Scooby movies, to whatever it was. I don't do something unless I can commit 110 percent, and I just can't say that three times a month or this week I could actually, absolutely do an animated show."
Gellar said that she's not even sure the Buffy fan base would go for an animated series. "What's the term everyone uses?" she asked. "Jumping the shark. You never want to inundate, in my opinion. I think Buffy went out when it was still on top. I felt like we came back in that last season, did the show we wanted to do. I was really happy. I don't know why, then, you go back. What can Buffy do?
"I remember the pitch to me about the cartoon was like, 'She can turn into things and have magical powers,'" Gellar said. "To me, that wasn't what Buffy was about. To me, Buffy was a real girl. These were metaphors for real demons. This was about how, in high school, the demons of high school literally become these monsters. So I'm not sure why you'd make an animated show. And no one showed me a script."

[...] "I have a lot of hesitation about it, since it WAS a movie, and I spent the first year of the show constantly explaining to people, 'no no, it's not like the movie' because there was such a bias to the movie, because it didn't work as a film. And that's my initial hesitation and the other is that clearly you're going to disappoint people. I mean, I was very happy with the finale, but I still believe that it should have been two hours. I believe there wasn't enough Xander, that certain things get left out, and when you make a film you're setting your self up to disappoint people. Part of the reason I believe the show worked was because the story's an arc and you felt for this character's experience, and it wasn't a beginning, middle and end and I don't believe she worked like that. I say that now, and if in a year they could send me the script, I could think it's great and we could be at the junket a year and a half from now, but I will say that I have a lot of hesitations about it and it is not something I particularly want to do at this time." Sarah Michelle Gellar was asked recently, at Comic-Con, whether or not she envisions a "Buffy" film ever happening.
"A Buffy and Angel movie?... that's actually one I haven't heard before", Gellar said, according to a transcript at SMGFan. "Um, you know, the answer to that is that I don't know what's going to happen with that. I know there's been a lot of talk about it. You know, for those of you who don't know this...there was a Buffy movie originally, and I spent the first two years of my show trying to explain to people ...no, no, no, it's different than the movie. It's different than the movie....and part of the reason the movie didn't work was because Buffy was a story, in my opinion, that needed to be told over a period of time. And it works...to me it worked better when you spent time. And it wasn't over so neatly. I wish the finale was two hours. It didn't seem long enough to me. [crowd cheer in agreement] And I would be really fearful of putting all of that heart and all of those characters into two hours because I know that at some point there would be a letdown..whether Xander didn't get featured enough, or Willow... or whatever it was. And um... if someone came to me and it looked like just the perfect two hours that I thought wouldn't disappoint... then it would absolutely be something that I would consider, but I haven't seen that yet". Ein neuer "Buffy"-Kinofilm mit Sarah Michelle Gellar soll derzeit
bei den Machern der TV-Serie im Gespraech sein. Dieses meldet
zumindest "AICN". Sicher sei derzeit allerdings nichts, nur, dass
"Buffy" im diesjaehrigen Season-Finale nicht sterben werde. Dieses,
damit sie in moeglichen Spin-off-Serien als Gaststar auftreten
koenne.
