Spider-Man [06.09.2010] Risky Business sprach mit Andrew Garfield, u.a. über seine kommende Hauptrolle...
[...] Have you been prepping for Spider-Man?
I have been waiting for this phone call for 24 years, for someone to call me up and say, "Hey, we want you to pretend to be a character that you’ve always wanted to be all your life, and we’re going to do it with cool cameras and cool effects and you’re going to feel like you’re swinging through New York City. Do you want to do that?" [laughs] "Let me just consult with my seven-year old self and see what he thinks..." So my seven-year-old self started screaming in my soul and saying, This is what we’ve been waiting for. Like every young boy who feels stronger on the inside than they look on the outside, any skinny boy basically who wishes their muscles matched their sense of injustice, God, it’s just the stuff that dreams are made of, for sure. It’s a true fucking honor to be part of this symbol that I actually think is a very important symbol and it’s meant a great deal to me, and it continues to mean something to people. So yeah, I feel like I’ve been preparing for it for a while. Ever since Halloween when I was four years old and I wore my first Spider-Man costume. [...]

[20.08.2010] Heatvision meldet...
The narrowing down for the female lead in the upcoming Marc Webb-directed "Spider-Man" movie has begun.
Starting today and heading into the weekend, select actresses are meeting with Webb and new Spidey actor Andrew Garfield. In a departure from the Tobey Maguire-Kirsten Dunst movies, the love-interest character is not Mary Jane. What isn't clear is whether the actresses are auditioning to play Gwen Stacy, Parker’s other love interest in the comics (played by Bryce Dallas Howard in 2007's "Spider-Man 3") or some other new character. The script pages being given to the actresses have no name listed for the character.
If necessary, another round of meetings may occur next weekend.
There are others in contention, but we can reveal the following names:
Imogen Poots, the CAA-repped actress who is currently shooting the "Fright Night" remake.
Ophelia Lovibond, a British up-and-comer who appeared in "Nowhere Boy" and "4.3.2.1" and recently wrapped William Monahan’s "London Boulevard";
Lilly Collins, repped by CAA and ROAR, who appeared in "The Blind Side" last year and will be seen in "Priest."
Others potentially in the mix are:
Teresa Palmer, who is currently shooting "I Am Number Four" and was the romantic lead in this summer’s "The Sorcerer’s Apprentice." The actress, repped by WME and Management 360, read with Garfield last weekend.
Emma Roberts has twice flown from the set of "Scream 4" for readings. (Sweeney Management-repped Roberts co-starred with Lovibond in "4.3.2.1.")
Mary Elizabeth Winstead, the love interest in "Scott Pilgrim vs the World," was in the arachnid web but sources say she has now fallen out.
These are not screentests, which usually involve some sort of dealmaking, but rather readings and meetings. Basically, it’s still early. And if none of these girls work out, don’t rule out another round of searching.
Like Garfield, many of the contenders on the female side are up-and-comers, fitting in with the lower-key, edgier movie Webb is trying to make. The story is more grounded in the high school setting than the previous Sam Raimi-directed trilogy. The production is looking to go before cameras in December.
Columbia had no comment.

[01.07.2010] CS! sprach mit Josh Hutcherson über sein "Spider-Man"-Vorsprechen...
[...] Hutcherson did confirm that he had auditioned, adding what most everyone already knows about the casting process for Webb's anticipated reboot: "I think a lot of people are auditioning and talking about it, so it's an honor to be considered on the same list with some of these actors that I'm up against. It's really cool. To be talked about in that kind of role is very awesome."
"I really don't know what's going on with everything right now," he told us when asked if he was still in the running. "It would be an honor to play that role, it's a big thing, it's a total game changer. I really want to play a comic book hero. I'm not really huge into comics, but I've always been big into superheroes from the cartoons and the movies that have been made about them."
We kind of knew the answer but we had to Hutcherson if he had a chance to read any of the script before or during his audition, to which he replied, "No, they won't let anybody read that. They have it in a safe inside a vault inside some secret Fort Knox location." [...]

The veteran screenwriter (and repeat Spidey scribe) has been brought on board to fine-tune Columbia’s "Spider-Man" reboot being directed by Marc Webb.
The studio is working off a script by Jamie Vanderbilt, who wrote "Zodiac" and a draft of "Spider-Man 4" before the studio scrapped its plans for the sequel to re-start the series. Ever since it was reported on January 11 that Sony would be rebooting their lucrative Marvel franchise with the fourth Untitled Spider-Man Film, there have been rumors and speculation about who might play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the new movie. A week after that announcement, Marc Webb ((500) Days of Summer) was named as director of the reboot, and various thoughts about who would play Spidey continued.
Possibly the most interesting name brought forward was 18-year-old Logan Lerman on February 4, who while doing press for his new movie Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief told Access Hollywood that he was in talks for the role, a claim that both Sony and the actor's reps quickly denied almost immediately after the story ran, saying Lerman hadn't actually had any talks.
The following week, many got to see Logan doing an impressive amount of action and heroics in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, and it ended up opening with $38.7 million over the four-day Presidents Day weekend, yet there was no word on whether Sony was still thinking of Lerman as a contender.
Recently, the rumor that Lerman had indeed been cast in the role started popping up again and over the past 24 hours that story has been rolling through the tabloids and across the internet at a rapid pace. It was even mentioned on CBS' "The Early Show" this morning.
Sony Pictures told us today, however, that this rumor is completely untrue. No one has been offered the job and the studio is not in negotiations with any actor. [...]

[11.02.2010] CS! meldet...
Spider-Man will swing into theaters worldwide in 3D beginning July 3, 2012, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, Chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing & Distribution. The new film which is still untitled, will begin production later this year directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios.
Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, "Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we're thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D. Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc's fantastic vision for Peter Parker and the franchise."

[...] Webb, who has options on two sequels, will now tackle a Jamie Vanderbilt script that sees a "Spider-Man" movie that will look and feel very different from the big movies that went before it.
The plan for the movie is to be in the $80 million range and feature a cast of relative unknowns (so you can quash those Rob Pattinson or Gordon-Levitt rumors at this point). And the story will be pared down to center on a high school kid who is dealing with the knowledge that his uncle died even though the teen had the power to stop it.
The touchstone for the new movie will not be the 1960s comics, which were the inspiration behind the movies by Raimi, who grew on up on them, but rather this past decade’s "Ultimate Spider-Man" comics by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley where the villain-fighting took a back seat to the high school angst. [20.01.2010] Via CS! kommt die offizielle Bestätigung des Regisseurs für das "Spider-Man" Reboot...
Marc Webb, the director of the Golden Globe-nominated Best Picture (500) Days of Summer, will direct the next chapter in the Spider-Man franchise, set to hit theaters summer 2012, it was jointly announced today by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios.
Written by James Vanderbilt, Webb will work closely with producers Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin in developing the project, which will begin production later this year.
Commenting on the announcement, Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, said, "At its core, Spider-Man is a small, intimate human story about an everyday teenager that takes place in an epic super-human world. The key for us as we sought a new director was to identify filmmakers who could give sharp focus to Peter Parker's life. We wanted someone who could capture the awe of being in Peter's shoes so the audience could experience his sense of discovery while giving real heart to the emotion, anxiety, and recklessness of that age and coupling all of that with the adrenaline of Spider-Man's adventure. We believe Marc Webb is the perfect choice to bring us on that journey."
Arad and Ziskin added jointly, "Over the years, the Spider-Man comics have been told with bold and creative new writers and artists who have re-calibrated the way audiences see Peter Parker. Marc Webb will do for the new direction of the films what so many visionary storytellers have done with the comic books. He is an incredibly talented filmmaker and we look forward to working closely with him on this new adventure."
Webb said, "This is a dream come true and I couldn't be more aware of the challenge, responsibility, or opportunity. Sam Raimi's virtuoso rendering of Spider-Man is a humbling precedent to follow and build upon. The first three films are beloved for good reason. But I think the Spider-Man mythology transcends not only generations but directors as well. I am signing on not to 'take over' from Sam. That would be impossible. Not to mention arrogant. I'm here because there's an opportunity for ideas, stories, and histories that will add a new dimension, canvas, and creative voice to Spider-Man."
Stan Lee, co-creator of Spider-Man, added, "I'm excited that Sony has chosen a director with a real penchant and understanding for the character. This is a brave, bold direction for the franchise, and I can't wait to see what Marc comes up with next."
Added Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, "The idea of re-imagining the on-screen story for one of the world's most iconic superheros is sure to deliver an exciting new dimension to Spider-Man fans everywhere. There are volumes of comics and material available to inspire fresh and compelling takes on Peter Parker and his journey as Spidey and we look forward to seeing this come alive onscreen." [...]

[14.01.2010] Laut Deadline.com gibt es bereits einen aussichtsreichen Kandidaten für den Regiestuhl des Reboots...
Marc Webb, the (500) Days Of Summer director, has climbed to the top of the Sony Pictures' list to rebirth the Spider-Man franchise. While the studio has a wish list of star directors like James Cameron, David Fincher, and Wes Anderson, the emergence of Webb as director comes as a huge surprise. But Mike Fleming's sources tell him Webb met about the Spidey reboot with the pic's producers and executives looking to get the picture into production later this year for a Summer 2012 release. Why will the pic take so long? Because it's likely to be shot in 3-D, and Sony Pictures plans to make an announcement about that "at the appropriate time".
Though he has the perfect name for the job, Webb has no prior superhero experience. (Hey, I saw Darkman and that was more of a science experiment that a superhero.) Then again, neither did Sam Raimi. And Chris Nolan was the director of Memento when he signed on for Batman Begins. Webb is also a newbie if Sony greenlights 3-D. But among directors, almost all would be.
What has Sony execs excited is the fact that (500) Days of Summer introduced a director with a grasp of how to depict the way young people think and feel. This is critical because the Jamie Vanderbilt script covers the formative years of a high school-aged Peter Parker, and that POV is as important as the action sequences. Especially after Sony and Sam Raimi retired the original Spidey franchise because they realized the film would have been same old/same old at a huge budget. Injecting new blood with an up-and-coming director is a bold stroke. Too bad Webb’s (500) Days star Joseph Gordon-Levitt is too old to play the high school-aged wall crawler. He’d be perfect.

Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012.
Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.
The new chapter in the "Spider-Man" franchise produced by Columbia, Marvel Studios and Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will have a new cast and filmmaking team. Spider-Man 4 was to have been released in 2011, but had not yet gone into production.
"A decade ago we set out on this journey with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and together we made three 'Spider-Man' films that set a new bar for the genre. When we began, no one ever imagined that we would make history at the box-office and now we have a rare opportunity to make history once again with this franchise. Peter Parker as an ordinary young adult grappling with extraordinary powers has always been the foundation that has made this character so timeless and compelling for generations of fans. We're very excited about the creative possibilities that come from returning to Peter's roots and we look forward to working once again with Marvel Studios, Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin on this new beginning," said Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
"Working on the 'Spider-Man' movies was the experience of a lifetime for me. While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job," said Sam Raimi.
"We have had a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration and friendship with Sam and Tobey and they have given us their best for the better part of the last decade. This is a bittersweet moment for us because while it is hard to imagine Spider-Man in anyone else's hands, I know that this was a day that was inevitable," said Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, who has served as the studio's chief production executive since the beginning of the franchise. "Now everything begins anew, and that's got us all tremendously excited about what comes next. Under the continuing supervision of Avi and Laura, we have a clear vision for the future of Spider-Man and can't wait to share this exciting new direction with audiences in 2012."
"'Spider-Man' will always be an important franchise for Sony Pictures and a fresh start like this is a responsibility that we all take very seriously," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures. "We have always believed that story comes first and story guides the direction of these films and as we move onto the next chapter, we will stay true to that principle and will do so with the highest respect for the source material and the fans and moviegoers who deserve nothing but the best when it comes to bringing these stories and characters to life on the big screen."
The studio will have more news about Spider-Man in 2012 in the coming weeks as it prepares for production of the film.

With all the rumors and speculation about Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4, whether or not it will make its scheduled May 5, 2011 release date and why it has run into production problems, it's come out in the wash that John Malkovich was indeed up for the role of the Vulture, Raimi's choice of villain for the fourth movie, which was first broken by Movieline a month ago.
Malkovich was interviewed by an Italian sports show called "Quelli Che il Calcio" and he was asked not only about whether he had been approached to play the Vulture but also about the production delays. The fine folks at the Italian web site Bad Taste have graciously provided an English summation of what was said on the show:
"When conductor Simona Ventura asked him about his role of Vulture in the movie, he not only didn't deny his involvement, but confirmed that he's waiting for the final script to be sent to him, and that the movie has been delayed. He also hopes that shooting will begin as soon as possible."
Some may remember that Malkovich was the alternate choice to play the Green Goblin in the first "Spider-Man" movie, a role that went to his Shadow of the Vampire co-star Willem Dafoe, so it has always made perfect sense that Raimi would be interested in him to play a Spidey villain. The question is whether Sony will agree to the lesser Spider-Man villain for such an important tentpole franchise. [...]

[09.01.2010] CS! meldet...
[...] Tobey Maguire addressed reports that production has been postponed on Spider-Man 4 so that Alvin Sargent can do more work on the script.
"Like anything, it's a process," Maguire said. "We're just in the midst of the process. We have a lot of great stuff in terms of story and script. We're just trying to dial it in and get it ready as quickly as possible. Of course, these movies are a very big undertaking and take a lot more time than a drama or something more straightforward."
The studio hasn't given up the scheduled May 5, 2011 release date just yet, but whatever happens, Maguire is excited about the character's future.
"Not only do I have specific ideas, but the ideas are evolving on the page," he said. "It's all happening right now. It's all sort of coming together. It's very exciting to me. I think the evolution of the character is really exciting, to be rooted in the history of what we've done already and to have a continuity, yet have a progression or evolution."

[06.01.2010] Wie Variety.com meldet, verzögert "Spider-Man 4" aufgrund von Problemen mit dem Drehbuch...
A holiday hiatus has turned into an indefinite vacation for "Spider-Man 4."
A Sony source confirmed that the studio is postponing production on the fourth installment of its superhero franchise, which was scheduled to begin lensing in February. Word began circulating among fanboys in mid-December that pre-production had ground to a halt on "Spidey 4" due to script problems with the Sam Raimi-helmed tentpole. At the time, the studio insisted that crew members were merely taking a two-week Christmas break.
Move echoes that of another Sony tentpole that was postponed due to script problems. In November 2007, Sony put "Angels & Demons" on ice until screenplay issues could be resolved. That film was originally slotted for a Christmas 2008 bow. Instead, it opened May 15, 2009.
In the case of "Angels & Demons," the script was rushed because of the looming WGA strike. With "Spider-Man 4," the studio has been fielding drafts of the script for years, with James Vanderbilt taking a crack at it. Alvin Sargent is currently retooling the story.
Sony still has "Spidey 4" skedded for May 6, 2011, though that date has become highly unlikely. The postponement would leave the first big weekend of next summer up for grabs by other studios.
"We'll try, but I think making May is a real question," the source said. "We will not start until we have it right. The feeling is we are not going to rush it to make the date."

[11.12.2009] CS! sprach mit Bryce Dallas Howard, u.a. über "Spider-Man 4"...

[09.12.2009] Bei Movieline gibt es neue Gerüchte bzgl. der "Spider-Man 4"-Bösewichte...
[...] Movieline has confirmed with sources close to the film that Raimi’s sequel is circling John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway to play Spider-Man’s adversaries, and neither evildoer is quite what you might have expected.
If negotiations proceed according to plan, Malkovich will be playing Spider-Man’s nemesis the Vulture, who packs a punch despite his advanced age. The Vulture is able to fly through the air and brandish his sharp wings to attack Spider-Man.
As for Hathaway, that’s where things get tricky.
The 27-year-old actress is currently the top choice for Felicia Hardy, who’d been long-rumored as one of the new characters in this installment. (Other names bandied about for the role included Julia Stiles, Rachel McAdams, and Romola Garai.) However, unlike in the comic books, this Felicia Hardy doesn’t transform into the Black Cat. Instead, Raimi’s Felicia will become a brand-new superpowered figure called the Vulturess. [...]

[19.11.2009] Deadline Hollywood meldet...
[...] While Sony Pictures insists no decisions have been made, sources tell me that the producers have approached Anne Hathaway to star in the film. Maybe you experts have an idea what she'll play? All I know is that she's wanted for a starring role, and she won't replace Kirsten Dunst who's also cast in the Spidey fourquel. UPDATE: You readers think the role is The Black Cat.

[18.11.2009] EW.com räumt Gerüchte bzgl. der kommenden weiblichen Hauptrolle aus...
Late last week, reports spread across dozens of Internet sites claiming that actress Rachel McAdams has been cast to play a villain named the Black Cat in the fourth installment of the Spider-Man franchise. If your spider senses got all tingly at the idea - well, sorry, but according to McAdams, it’s simply untrue. "That’s a total rumor, I have to say," the actress, who will next be seen in the Dec. 25 action-adventure tentpole Sherlock Holmes, tells EW. "I was hanging out in Toronto the other day and someone came up to me and said, ‘I just heard you’re doing Spider-Man 4.‘ And I said, ‘Really? No one told me!’ It’s not true." A rep for Sony Pictures concurs: "It’s an Internet rumor, as so many things are these days."

[10.11.2009] CS! berichtet über die kommende weibliche Hauptrolle...
[...] according to Mania, actresses are auditioning for the role of villain Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, and the site says that Rachel McAdams (upcoming Sherlock Holmes) is a frontrunner for the role. Mania adds that they are also casting for a male villain, which would mean we're looking at two villains for the fourth installment. None of this is confirmed, of course.
In the meantime, fans pointed us to The Observer where actress Romola Garai (Atonement) has a column in which she wrote the following:
"Love is at the root of everything good that has ever happened and will happen." This phrase swam into focus as I moved up the escalator at Oxford Circus tube on Tuesday morning on my way to put myself "on tape" for a part in Spider-Man 4. This is the acting equivalent of the London Marathon in that it's important to try your best as long as you understand that you aren't going to win.
Might she also be going for the Felicia Hardy role? We won't know for sure until we start hearing official casting news from Sony. [...]
